High School Science Teaching

Chicago State University is one of about 30 institutions funded by the American Physical Society to increase the number of high quality physics teachers in our high schools.  CSU is the only PhysTEC-supported site in Illinois and is the only  predominately black institution supported by the program.  With the help of PhysTEC we have doubled the number of physics majors in the undergraduate secondary education option at CSU.

CSU is funded by the NSF Noyce Program and funds students to pursue careers in high school science teaching.  The program provides about $800K of student support to students who desire to teach science in high-needs districts like Chicago Public Schools.  With every year of financial support, students commit to two years of teaching in these districts.
